Strong El Niño expected this season

Kenya Met has forecast above normal rainfall for October to December, with an 81 percent probability of exceptionally heavy El Niño rains and a 97 percent likelihood the rains continue into January 2027. Nairobi County projects 22,000 to 25,000 households affected in a medium scenario and up to 100,000 in the worst case.

What it is. A public awareness map. Nairobi County says 246 areas have been mapped as flood hotspots for the October to December 2026 rains. The full list has not been released. This map shows only the places named in public statements so far, and will be updated as more are confirmed.

What it is not. Official evacuation guidance. Follow instructions from Nairobi County, Kenya Red Cross and the Ministry of Health. Do not walk or drive through floodwater.
